Elephant Child- Rudyard Kipling

Grey as a mouse,

Big as a house,

Nose like a snake,

I make the earth shake,

As I tramp through the grass;

Trees crack as I pass. …

Biggest of all,

Huge, old and tall.

If ever’d you meet me,

You wouldn’t forget me.

If you never do,

You won’t think I’m true;

But old Oliphaunt am I,

And I never lie.

— Sam Gamgee, Lord of the Rings

There was a time when elephants were held in awe and reverence, but it seems that time has passed:

Here in Mayapur at least, there’s still a home for at least a couple of India’s pachyderms

Here’s a few more photos of Visnupriya, just delivered to my by Hrmati mataji. As you can see, at about 3 years old, she’s really cute.

Hare Krishna!
Thank you Hari Sauri Prabhu for posting these Pictures. Actually there is still a lot of work to be done before we can load Vishnupriya on the truck to bring her to Sri Dham Mayapur to become the servant of Sri Sri Radha Madhava.
The latest news is, that her ownership papers have been forwarded to the Regional forest office. However, I will only be able to go back to Assam after Kartik to do the application for her engagement for Religious work in West Bengal. It all sounds complicated, but without following all the procedures it will not be possible to bring her here.
The owner of these two Elephants is quite a poor fellow and does not have the means to look after them.
It costs at least 10 000Rupees per month to maintain one Elephant in India.
Any one who would like to contribute towards the maintenance of these two BIG new servants of Sri Sri Radha Madhava,Laksmipriya and Vishnupriya, please contact me or Shankarsan Nitai Prabhu per E-mail
“M.A.P. (Mayapur Animal Protection team)”

Hare Krishna!

Your servant,
Hrimati dasi
