I often get devotees writing to ask what Srila Prabhupada said or thought about a variety of topics. I can’t claim to know his mind, but where I can I try to share what I have heard or observed from His Divine Grace. Here’s a recent question about ISKCON’s history and its relevance to new devotees. This is from Gaura Karuna from the CIS:1. How important is this to study history of ISKCON? What place should this occupy in spiritual life?

It is very important to study the history of ISKCON, especially any books relating the activities of Srila Prabhupada. Without knowing your roots, how will it be possible to properly execute the will of the Founder/acarya?

Srila Prabhupada was specifically empowered by Lord Caitanya to spread the Krsna consciousness movement all around the world. He set the standards for practice that will carry this movement forward for many thousands of years. Every member of ISKCON needs to have a good understanding of the great austerities and compassion Srila Prabhupada
exhibited in establishing ISKCON. This will inspire them and educate them as to how we can put the philosphy into practical action in our modern society.
